Model History:

The MG Midget holds a special place in automotive history as a classic British sports car that gained popularity for its nimble handling, iconic design, and spirited performance. The MG Midget traces its roots back to the late 1950s when the British Motor Corporation (BMC) sought to produce a smaller and more affordable alternative to the successful MG sports cars of the time, such as the MGA. The MG Midget was closely related to the Austin-Healey Sprite, sharing many components and design features. This collaboration between MG and Austin-Healey allowed for cost-effective production and shared development efforts. This example is the desirable ‘round-wheel arch’ (RWA) body which along with the subtle aesthetic modifications suits as a balanced, modern-day interpretation of the iconic little MG Midget.

Exterior Condition:

The speedwell Blue paint looks great, the wheels are unmarked and the convertible roof is new.

Interior Condition:

The car was fully restored with new insulation and interior, with seats taken from an MGF that fit perfectly and look correct and are more comfortable than the standard seats. The car also has a removable Bluetooth stereo from Marshall which is plenty loud enough and has great battery life to enjoy your favourite tunes for any road trip.

Engine:

The heart of this MG Midget is a bespoke 1293cc powerplant featuring a 16-valve 'Twin-Cam' cylinder head conversion kit from Specialist Components. This conversion not only increases power output to an impressive 115-120 bhp but also enhances reliability and drivability with fuel injection and individual throttle bodies. Complemented by a custom carbon fibre air intake, custom exhaust manifold and a Maniflow exhaust system, this engine delivers exhilarating performance and a roaring soundtrack.

Chassis:

The car was restored fully on a rotisserie ensuring maximum visibility of any corrosion that could easily be attended to. The underside was also undersealed and painted body colour. The chassis of this MG Midget has been meticulously attended to, with a comprehensive suspension upgrade kit from Peter May, including rear telescopic suspension, a Panhard rod kit, and a lowering kit. Additionally, the front suspension has been converted to MGB levers, enhancing handling and cornering stability.

Transmission:

Equipped with a 3J Driveline gearbox sourced via Tommy Turner, this MG Midget offers smooth and precise gear changes, further augmented by a Burton Power short shift lever for enhanced driving dynamics.

Drivetrain:

The drivetrain of this MG Midget has been significantly upgraded, featuring a MED 7.5" flywheel for reduced rotational inertia and improved throttle response. Coupled with a Helix 7.5" clutch plate from Peter May and a Tilton clutch master cylinder with a remote reservoir from McGill Motorsport, this drivetrain setup ensures optimal power delivery and driver engagement.

Steering:

Front and centre of the driver is a stunningly crafted wooden Moto Lita steering wheel which suits the car perfectly and is the perfect size to engage with the road beneath you. For added security and peace of mind the car has been fitted with a steering lock as well as a hidden battery cut-off switch.

Brakes:

This modified 1973 MG Midget features upgraded front brakes sourced from Midland Sports and Classics, ensuring enhanced stopping power and reliability. The brake master cylinder (GMC 151) from MG Spares Day, coupled with Vintage brake lines, ensures precise brake modulation and consistent performance.
